Monument Commemorating the Accession of Fukuji Dam
from the United States to Japan

The construction of Fukuji Dam was planned by the
Ryukyu Domestic Water Corporation, a corporate entity of
the United States Civil Administration of the Ryukyu
Islands, and the project was initiated by the U.S.Army
District Okinawa, Corps of Engineers, in 1969, with the
cooperation of Higashi-Son Village.

Upon the reversion of Okinawa to Japan on 15 May 1972,
the construction was turned over to the Government of
Japan. and the Okinawa General Bureau of the Government
of Japan completed the construction in December 1974.

On the occasion of commemorating the 20th anniversary
of the reversion of Okinawa to Japan, this monument is
dedicated to express our appreciation to both the
Americans and the Japanese involved. It is our hope that
the dam, essential to the development of water resources
on Okinawa, will contribute to the further development of
the prefecture.
